A ban to travel the US, on straight and stunning Gujrat’s chief minister Narendra Modi was imposed after anti-Muslim riots 2002. Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had proven himself with the tremendous growth in the Gujrat and now The United States would welcome him, if he wins the upcoming election.

For this, U.S. Ambassador Nancy Powell visited Modi at his home in Gandhinagar in Gujarat state, India last month to end a long disaffection over riots that originated in 2002 in which about 1000 people were killed.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal said, “I would just say that the United States has welcomed every leader of this vibrant democracy, and that a democratically elected leader of India will be a welcome partner. Modi who is best placed to form a coalition government, Washington was ready to do business with him.”

Last December in New York, an Indian diplomat suspected of visa fraud was arrested that has shaken the political ties between the two nations, but now the US want to rebuild the trade.

The US government officially cancelled his visa in 2005 as rights activists said, Modi had turned blind eye, despite seeing all destruction. Britain was the first European country to end its boycott on meeting Modi, then other countries follow the same. But, it seems like that Washington had put its human rights concerns on the back burner because of Modi’s political rise.

Biswal said, “Visa issues are handled on a case by case basis. And determinations are made based on the facts of the day and are reviewed at the time that a request is made. The United States hoped India would continue to build a tolerant, moderate and secular society”

Perhaps, The U.S. administration has stopped short of stating publicly that Modi would be able to travel to the United States only if, he wins the lower house election otherwise, he would not be welcomed in Washington.

Though, Modi himself has not commented on the travel ban, but Senior party leader Arun Jaitley said that the U.S. boycott had not been based on any evidence or court verdict, but on “excessive propaganda”.
